Gabriela (Gaby) has worked at GFN since 2016. In her experience, she has visited and exchanged knowledge with food banks in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. She serves the food banks in the MEA region as the main point of contact to drive knowledge and a diverse array of resources. Technical assistance and support include strengthening fundraising approaches, advising on product sourcing partnerships to rescue more nutritious surplus food, and growing capacity with high operating standards. She advocates for human rights and believes that food is a human right. Gaby is an alumna of the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she studied French & Francophone Studies and Political Science. She lives in Chicago, IL USA with her husband and toddler.

An update from the field: “The food bankers empower me”

“The food bankers empower me to keep my drive, to do what I’m doing for them. They’re the ones on the ground – distributing food in informal settlements, seeing people literally stuck in their homes without any income or food. I really feel for them; I think about them every day when I’m sitting in my home,” shared Gabriela, GFN Field Services Officer overseeing food banks in the Middle East and Africa.
