Country Projects: Peru

Overview

GFN provided a scholarship for a committed businessman from Peru to attend the H-E-B/GFN Food Bank Leadership Institute in March 2009.  That delegate is now working with colleagues in Lima to develop a plan for food banking.

Approximately 53 percent of the Peruvian population lives below the national poverty line, and 25 percent lives in extreme poverty, according to the World Food Programme.

GFN’s Involvement

Peru is a new project country for GFN. We made an initial feasibility assessment visit and will provide subject matter expertise and share best practices on starting a food banking system.
