Announcing Pro Bono Award Winners

(Feb. 26, 2008) We are pleased to announce the recipients of DLA Piper’s national Pro Bono Awards, including our Justice Seymour Simon Team Project Award.

Our partner, associate, and staff awardees were selected based on several criteria, including the amount and quality of pro bono work accomplished, the difficulty in achieving a positive result, the courage involved in taking the work, and the positive impact of the work on the client, community, candidate, and firm.

The Global FoodBanking Network: Honoring the firm’s long commitment to fighting hunger, in 2007 the Global FoodBanking Network (GFN) continued to develop and expand its vision of combating hunger by coordinating the efforts of food banks worldwide.

  • Leveraging the firm’s successful multistate and multinational business platform, the GFN team in 2007 included more than 35 timekeepers recording 1,031.5 hours valued at more than $650,000.

    GFN Board Member Eva Clayton, Professor Aziz Akgul from Turkey and Chris Rebstock all presented a panel on food banking with Professor Mahmud Duwayri, a GFN Board Member, acting as moderator.     This spring, GFN will marshal the food sourcing experience and skills of the food and grocery industry along with food bank experts to provide a Food Sourcing Training Course for about 16 food bankers from 10 countries.
